The Parent’s Guide to Alcohol and a Safer Schoolies

The Queensland Government has developed The Parent’s Guide to Alcohol and a Safer Schoolies in a bid to help parents manage the challenges of Schoolies.

Developed by the Queensland Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing and the Department of Communities, the guide is supported by the graphic Don’t Kid Yourself television commercial which is currently screening.

This guide aims to get parents thinking about the consequences of supplying their child with alcohol, and encourage parents to talk about alcohol and Schoolies with their child.

Results of a recent survey, conducted by The Sunday Mail on behalf of the Queensland Government, indicated that around one third of parents plan to supply their children with alcohol at Schoolies this year.

Parents should know about the new “reckless supply” legislation that makes it illegal for them to provide alcohol to underage children without responsible supervision, or face a fine of up to $6000.

For more information about the new laws contact the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing on 13 13 04 or visit www.OLGR.qld.gov.au
